Light and scent are the most elementary and most emotional phenomena in our culture. Christophe Laudamiel‘s works speak directly to our emotions; scent has a direct effect on our centre of emotion, and is later joined by rational perception. Jakob Kupfer circumvents the »rational filter« through the complete non-objectivity of his work and so directly penetrates the individual emotional level of the beholder.
What both artists share is that they work with supposedly intangible materials: scent molecules and light. One could even go further and says that their work is intangible, as the works only »exist« at the moment of contemplation, during the subjective experience of the beholder. The own emerging internal images and fantasies are the actual »work of art«.
Hereby Kupfer and Laudamiel define a new class of »originals«. Pivotal is no longer just the uniqueness of the pieces, but also the uniqueness and irreplicability of the subjective experience.
