Michael Schuster – At the Window
from August 30th to October 26th, 2019
Thursday, August 29th, 2019
Introductions 7.30 pm and 9.00 pm
Schuster's works on paper are made from the fragile material of dried, pressed leaves. He cuts these out, applies them to paper or places them in the room. Photographs, mostly snapshots from his private family album, serve as the templates and starting points for this. From 30th August to 26th October 2019, the mianki.Gallery will be showing new works by Michael Schuster in a solo exhibition entitled "At the Window”.
Again and again, there is this moment, this moment at the window. We allow our eyes and thoughts to circle and wander. These are the moments for pausing, digressing, sometimes boredom, but also moments for letting go of everyday life. And at the same time, it can be a moment in which memories surface and a moment for reminiscing. Images emerge, penetrate into consciousness. Images disappear again, are seemingly gone. But they are saved. Pictures, so many pictures in our imagination, inner images. A coming and going.
In this moment, we are simultaneously at the window and in a certain place and thus take up a position, a perspective. The artists in the creative process just like the viewers in the next step. And in the time in between, memory is created. The moment, the image, viewed up close, changes in the distance. A constant emerging and becoming, but also a passing and with every remembering, the picture changes, because the time and place exert an influence ... we are unable to escape this process.
