Michael Schuster – IM MOMENT
Thursday, January 13 th, 2022, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
January 14th until March 19th, 2022
Schuster's works on paper are made of the fragile material of dried, pressed leaves. He cuts them out, applies them to paper or places them in the space. Photographs, mostly snapshots, taken from his private family album are used as templates and starting points. They are snapshots, momentary recordings, but now seem rather different. More direct, immediate, in the here and now.
Moments in which we let our eyes and thoughts circle and wander. They are moments of pause, of digression, sometimes of boredom, but also moments of letting go of everyday life. And at the same time, there may be moments in which memories emerge and in which we revel. Moments like those we have experienced over the last two years with a different intensity.
An emotional moment, a moment of remembering a situation, a memory of a loved one, a memory of something that just happened, a memory of a car journey, a memory of a moment of listening to music, a memory of a picture, a memory of a thought, a memory of a wistful reminiscence.
At the same time, we look at the works from and in a certain place and therefore adopt a certain position, a special perspective, just as the artist had before in his creative process. And in the meantime, a memory emerges. The moment, the picture, viewed from close-up, changes in the distance. A constant arising and becoming, but also a passing - with each memory the picture changes … we cannot escape this process.
A catalogue by Michael Schuster will be published during the exhibition. We will be happy to inform you about the exact date of the catalogue presentation in our Newsletter.
