Ulrich Haug – GLEICHGEWICHT HALTEN
Ulrich Haug‘s works are both image and object. They are plane and rectangular – and thus reminiscent of the contours of paint-ings. At the same time, they unfold an object-like and sculptural presence.
His materials: Wood and charcoal, bitumen, concrete, and all manner of found objects. His raw material, his proverbial paint: wax, kerosene and beeswax. He hides his found objects in wax, removes them from their original context and transfers them into a new state through his conscious intervention and changes. The works seem mysterious, the embedded materials want to be rediscovered and read, challenging the viewer.
He has mastered the subtle play of materials, forms and contrasts. Looking at the works, we also recognize the delicate structure around us. A sensitive system that demands one thing above all from us: to maintain balance.
